Disappointed and Happy

I was really looking forward to the Springer omnium this past weekend. The TT looked perfect on MapMyRide, and I normally never worry about a crit. So here's a brief recap of the weekend to explain the title of this post.

The TT was at 7:30AM sat morning. I pre-road the course and what was supposed to be an almost pancake flat course had about 40 rollers in it both ways. I averaged 335 watts for 25 min, and finished 11th out of 18 guys. I was pushing for a 350 average, but with all the rollers I couldn't maintain a certain wattage. Aero bars were not needed. I imagine the perfect cyclist for this course would be 150lbs, and put out big watts. I just wasn't fast enough for the course.

The crit. This was probably the most disappointing. I think I was depressed from the TT and just didn't have the drive to do anything. I stayed in the pack, but once I saw a top 10 wasn't possible I just stayed in for the finish. That was a major mental failure on my part. That was the disappointing part of the title.

The road race. I got a bit of inside from a local guy that the first climb was 10 miles in and a 20 min climb, and the second was at about 30 in and a 10 min climb. Neither was something that sounded good to me. But I had already paid.

Nothing happened before the first climb, but when we hit it everyone went crazy. I think I was the last guy to start up it, and I honestly thought my day was over. I just held an impressing 350watt average up the climb, and passed roughly 25 guys on my way up. The main group was in sight when I started the descent, which was nice. Me and two other guys chased and caught back on to the main group....which brought the main group total to about 12, haha. I found out there was a break of 4 or 5 up the road. Honestly I was just happy to still be with the group.

Through the flat between the two climbs I worked with a few guys trying to catch the 5 guys up the road, but one of those guys had about 4 teammates in the group I was in, and they weren't having anything to do with the chasing. So we hit the second climb, everyone goes crazy again, and held a 340 watt average up this one. Caught everyone on the way down back into town, except the break.

Sprinted in for 13th out of over 40 guys. Which is not impressive, but for a climbing course I was extremely happy.

No real results, but with a lot of other stuff going on in life right now I'm pleased. I think the next race will show better results.

Too, I had over 100min's this week above my FTP. On the way to a very nice peak for about the time of the Rogues omnium.
