GSS #5 and 6 Recap

Here's a brief recap of the races this weekend. I'm not going to bore with turn by turn details:

sat the road race:
Down then up; repeat 6 times. I felt good all the way through to the finish, but the last time up the climb to the finish I just ran out of juice. I've had a cold since thursday, so I'll contribute my lack of ability to that. I was dead after the race, which isn't normal either. After much rest and more meds I was feeling better on sunday. I finished up in the pack.

sundays crit:
As I said, I was feeling much better. The field was a good size, 60+ guys. Nothing real important happened other than I was about 25 back halfway through the last lap. Thought I'd screwed myself again, but started pushing myself through the bunch to get to the front. I got up to about 7 back and a couple guys jumped right in front of me out of the last turn, and I started up the sprint to catch them, but ended up 6th. Not too bad, but I felt like I could've won had I had better position starting the last lap.

I've noticed I have really grown a hatred towards the guys that rush to the front on the start of last lap just to blow up and stop pedaling.......yeah that's right, just flat out stop pedaling. To you Mr. CockBlock, I promise if you stop blocking me I'll get a couple more good results and upgrade. Then we can be friends again. Really I shouldn't be mad, its just part of the race, but it does suck sometimes.

I have noticed with a large group of anxious guys its hard to hold position at the front without teammates. It seems like the Mexican/Spanish/Cubin/ContadorLooking guys in Greenville, or green team (not sure how to say the name of there team), do a good job. When they rush to the front I get the feeling like I'm David Crockett at the last stand of the Alamo. In other words its like having 5 guys against one, and I'm the one. I've never seen a Cat4 team as well organized as there's, as bad as I hate to say that.

So overall, I got a few bucks for my 6th place finish, and a few points towards my Cat3 upgrade. I'm not getting to Cat3 as fast as I would like, but hopefully it'll happen soon. Over halfway there in six races, so not too shabby. Maybe by Mid-Late April? I don't know. Right now it just feels nice knowing I have the legs to win if I can just get in the right position for the finish.

My fit felt pretty good. I had a little bit of muscle soreness in my back after saturday, but I felt fine sunday and wasn't even sore after the race. I'm going to hold what I have for about a month and let my body completely adjust to what I have before making any more adjustments.

Thanks for reading. Next race in two weeks....I think its called out like a lion weekend? Should be fun.
